Cold Sores Are Caused By...

Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus type 1. The virus is in the body and it stays in the nerves and never completely goes away. Cold sores are commonly triggered by exposure to sunlight. One of three people suffers from cold sores.
Some tips for dealing with cold sores include:

• Reduce stress when possible
• Wear sunscreen and SPF lip protection
• Use lip balm frequently to keep lips moist

When you do come down with a cold sore, don’t kiss anyone, or touch your cold sore with your hands. Cold sores can spread very easily. Also, talk with your doctor about possible medications to help stop or slow active herpes virus.
